wedding FAQs

Planning a wedding can be an overwhelming experience for some brides and grooms, so at Lavender Hill we like to give our clients a starting point when working with us. Fabric colors, textures, and any other elements you want to include in your floral work are all great things to have prepared before you sit down and make any final decisions. Below are some common questions we get from brides and grooms.

I'd like Lavender Hill to be my wedding florist.  What do I do now?

How do I hold my wedding date?

What's next?

Do you have an estimate as to how much the flowers will cost?

What should I bring to the consultation?

See if the date is available with us and place a booking deposit.  This guarantees your place on our event calendar.

To be sure the date becomes yours, a $100.00 booking deposit is requested.
This deposit is non-refundable. The amount is applied to the total of your floral bill.  You can place the deposit prior to your wedding consultation. We do not hold dates without a deposit.

Once you have definitely selected your dresses, call to schedule your floral consultation: 812.288.2388. Your consultation will take approximately 1-1/2 hrs.

Because florals are custom designed to the bride and groom’s needs and desires, it is difficult to give a blanket estimate. We highly suggest calling ahead to set up a private consultation to discuss all of the floral and décor possibilities available. We are happy to meet with you once your bridal attire is selected. Knowing the fabric colors as well as the style of both the bride’s and attendants’ attire will help make selecting the florals easier. Your bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages should compliment and enhance the clothing — not distract from it. This is the main reason we ask that your attire is selected before a consultation is set.

One important thing to bring to your consultation is some type of a budget for flowers and décor. Since every wedding scenario is different, no “right” amount can be suggested. A good estimate for budgeting would be to set aside 10%-25% of your overall wedding budget for flowers and décor. Again, this amount will vary depending on the level of emphasis flowers will play in your overall wedding theme. One thing to keep in consideration is that your flowers will be in almost every picture you’ll look at. Don’t overlook the opportunity to make sure each photo is floral enhanced.

We look forward to meeting with you to discuss your upcoming wedding. We also appreciate the time you will take to spend at our shop. As a busy bride- or groom-to-be, we know is your time is valuable. A typical consultation should take about 1-1 ½ hours. If you have limited ideas of what may be available to you, we highly encourage you to come to your consultation early. Take the time to look through our various pictures and books. We have hundreds of floral photos to inspire you. Doing this also helps to relieve the overwhelming feeling of needing to make an immediate decision.  Along with any pictures, clippings, fabric swatches and other details you’ll bring to the consultation, we’ve come up with a few more things to be aware of.

We have found that the following details tend to get overlooked and sometimes delay the number crunching on our end for being able to figure prices:

  1. Number of pews/chairs for ceremony _________

  2. Do the pews/chairs have sides to attach bows/décor to?_________

  3. Length of aisle _________

  4. If needing cake flowers, how large are the layers — in particular the top layer?_________

  5. If the cake is pillared, what are the sizes of the pillars? _________

After the consultation, you will be asked if you would like us to reserve your wedding date. A non-refundable booking deposit of $100.00 will hold your date until you receive (via mail or e-mail) a complete copy of all the flowers requested in detail and a floral contract. Please sign the contract and return it with your 50% deposit within five days of receipt. If you do not hold your date with a deposit at the time of your consultation your date will still be considered available.

We know that changes occur due to table count increases, etc. Changes can be made to your order at any time. A revised copy of the floral order will be mailed to you approximately three weeks prior to the wedding date. A final count for everything must be made 2 weeks before the wedding date and the final balance must be paid at this time.

A wedding date will not be held without a deposit.

vendors we love

Picking vendors who will make your wedding day as stress-free as possible is as important as picking the right dress. While there are hundreds of talented vendors in the Southern Indiana and Louisville areas, we know you’ll love what these few have to offer.

One of our most frequently asked questions is, “How much of my total budget should be for flowers?” Unfortunately, the answer is, “That’s up to you.” Each bride and groom are different — some couples pay for their own wedding, some have both sets of parents pay, and some only have one set of parents pay. This means budgets may be vastly different, ranging from $1,000 to $15,000. Click here to download our budget guideline information sheet. While this is by no means a definitive pricing guide, it should at least give you an idea of the range you may fall in.
